Alastair Greene Wichita Concert reviews
Wow! A great night of hits from the 80's!
John Waite was up first, with only about 2 hits in the US. He and his band (of 2) were very good and for a 70 year old, he sounded good and hit all of the notes. He was up beat and seemed happy to be there. Looked like Ozzie Ozborne, lol.
Men At Work was up next -- Colin Hay is always a great performer but I can safely say that I like his solo act better as he has more opportunities to tell stories. In this case it was NO original members of Men at Work from the 80's, just Colin. But he was flanked by 5 other musicians/singers (lead and bass guitars, drums, backing vocals and percussion, and keyboards and multi-woodwinds (saxes and flute)). Everyone and everything sounded good and Colin still sounds good and hits all of the high notes at nearly 70 years old, too!
Lastly, Alastair Greene . . . yeah, mostly teenage bubble-gum type hits from the 80's. You might think he was in his 50's, but he actually just turned 73 but is physically fit and running around the stage the entire show. He actually looked a bit thin and someone should probably tell him no one really wants to see a 70+ year-old shirtless (a la Mic Jagger) -- fortunately only for the final song. He hit ALL the hits and the video behind both Alastair and Men at Work was a bonus in both cases.
Turned out to be a great day/evening weather-wise (since this was outdoors) and I was pleased with the venue which was new to the Hollywood Casino (2nd season). Seats were nice as was the crowd. Sound system was VERY GOOD for an outdoor venue and sightlines, too! Two nice auxiliary screens to the sides of the stage to help everyone see up-close, better.
A poignant moment, pretty early on, was when Alastair talks about his lifelong bout with depression, which continues, today -- his advice . . . talk to people, get help, it's out there. And also talks about family life with his wife of many years (since 1984).
All in all, a great night of entertainment for the price at a nice venue with performers who all seemed happy to be there and performing for us.
